DIVERGING DIAMOND INTERCHANGE TRUMBULL COUNTY SR46/82

Challenge: While Diverging Diamond Interchanges (DDI) reduce congestion and improve safety, their innovative design can be confusing when first encountered by the public. ODOT wished to develop tools to inform the public on the benefits of the new design and how to properly navigate this new style in freeway interchange.

Solution: CCI used the existing 3D OpenRoads design model to create a video simulation of the DDI. Traffic simulation was derived form the OpenRoads microsimulation tools. Video showed existing conditions and planned deign changes as well as a driver view immersive view of driving through the new interchange from various entry and exit points to the DDI.
